Last year the car developed a whistling noise under WOT. I don’t mean the normal turbo sound either. So I replaced the hoses on the pipe that runs from the intercooler to the throttle body. DIdn’t make a dent.
Today, I replaced the one that connects the turbo to the intercooler, and took it for a spin.
Not only is the whistle just as loud as ever, it won’t build but 4psi of boost, and it doesn’t even accelerate. At all.
For the whistling, I just don’t know. For the slowness, I’m thinking the fuel pressure regulator finally bit the dust. It’s been on it’s way out for years, making cold starts an absolute nightmare.
*Sadness noises*
On the plus side, I did find these neat plug wires in the attic in the garage. Might put them on the Camaro, since I don’t care for the look of the MSDs, they’re way too long, and we broke one. Plus I want to learn how to make wires.

If you make your own please share. F inding optimal length plug wires for my 4.2L is difficult. Always too long

On motorcycles the plug has a threaded end on it and it just screws into the wire, twisting the wires around it as it does. You can just cut them and then screw the plug back in.

That’s the issue with the Camaro. I mean, look at this mess. Dad and I bought premade ones because he didn’t feel like dealing with the hassle of making them (his words, not mine, and I do understand the feeling)

unless you need hi performance larger diameter wires, order concourse approved wire sets for a big block. They usually fit really good. I have a set on my first gen small block car and there is not much excess. You can then pickup all the factory separator stuff to really clean things up.

Don’t know if I need bigger ones or not, but I like the Day 2 look, hence my love of yellow wires. Even if the ones I found are no good, I’d then get Accels. Just a visual thing. That, and making wires is a skill I’d like to learn.

Making plug wires is easy, just takes a little time. Very satisfying to do. Old, random wire from the attic may not be any good (dried out insulation ) but you certainly can practice with it. MSD sells kits that are normal black wire that you cut to length and terminate, etc.

If I buy new ones, I’m getting Accel for old school reasons.

Does it have a blowoff that’s not holding? Or a combination valve (similar thing in VW speak) that’s going bad?

Not that I’m aware but I’m honestly not very familiar with these things.

That sounds pretty simple. I’ve never had to replace a plug wire for a bike, just a battery ring terminal or 2.

It would make sense that if the blowoff, or whatever else is in line to release boost pressure, isn’t holding as it should, it could cause the low boost pressure and the whistle. That’d be my guess.

Just a guess, could be an issue with your wastegate. If the actuator is stuck open, it will run like crap and not build boost. Could also explain the whistling sound.

I’ll have to ask my grandfather about it, see if he knows what to look for in that regard because I unfortunately do not.
